SUVA, Fiji—From May 4-7, 2026, representatives of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Ms. Brihmer Johnson, Assistant Secretary for Statistics and Ms. Avalon Edward, SDP Lead Coordinator, participated in the Pacific Islands Forum 2050 Regional Convening at the PIF Secretariat in Suva, Fiji. The regional gathering brought together senior officials from national planning and statistics offices, regional organizations, development partners, and key stakeholders to advance implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
 
Assistant Secretary Johnson and Ms. Eward joined fellow Pacific representatives in discussions focused on practical implementation of the 2050 Strategy methods suitable for island communities. Ms. Edward presented on FSM’s Strategic Development Plan (SDP) 2024-2043, highlighting FSM’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework (MEL) efforts in coordination with the 2050 Strategy MEL framework. It was highlighted that strengthening institutional alignment through budgeting, data gathering and planning, partnerships will require a holistic approach in FSM’s context, and ensuring that regional mechanisms effectively support national priorities and sustainable development aspirations.
 
Assistant Secretary Johnson and Ms. Eward also paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the FSM in Suva, where they met with Deputy Chief of Mission Chandra Legdesog to discuss ongoing MEL initiatives in the region and exchange views on aligning regional implementation mechanisms with FSM’s national development priorities and needs.
 
The convening further highlighted the importance of inclusive engagement and collective regional action to address the Pacific’s evolving economic, environmental, and social challenges. Participants reaffirmed the value of strengthened partnerships among Pacific Forum Members, CROP agencies, and development partners to support a resilient, secure, and prosperous Blue Pacific region.
 
The 2050 Regional Convening concluded with renewed commitment toward enhancing cooperation, promoting knowledge sharing, and advancing coordinated regional efforts in support of the long-term vision of the Blue Pacific Continent.
