SUVA, Fiji — On August 14, 2025, the Pacific Islands Forum convened its annual Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) in Suva, Fiji. Bringing together Foreign Ministers and Foreign Affairs Senior Officials from across the Pacific region, the FMM serves as a critical platform, where Members review recommendations elevated from various PIF sub-committees, sectoral Ministerial meetings and other key engagements held throughout the year; Results of which form the foundation for decisions to be considered by Leaders at the upcoming 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara, Solomon Islands next month.
The FMM 2025 discussions encapsulate regional priorities in key sectors including Economic Development and Trade, Climate Action and Access to Finance, Technology and Connectivity, Ocean Governance, and Regional Security, etc. These discussions remain based in the collective vision of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and takes into account the Review of the Regional Architecture (RRA); an ongoing exercise that reviews Forum Membership, Partnership Mechanisms, and overall Forum Structure to ensure it remains fit-for-purpose and delivers on the 2050 Strategy set by our Leaders.
This year’s FMM reviewed progress made in key initiatives such as the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF), a Pacific-owned, Pacific-led Climate financing facility; the Blue Pacific Ocean of Peace Declaration (OOP), an initiative to promote Peace in the Pacific Region; and a Report from the High-Level Political Talanoa (HLPT), of which includes feedback from frank engagement with Members over the Forum’s current architecture, reflected during in-country consultations with Members (e.g. FSM’s in-country consultation was held 29-30 May 2025 in Palikir, Pohnpei); all of which were endorsed for further consideration by Leaders in Honiara.
