SUVA, Fiji — From July 16–18, 2025, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) took part in the annual Forum Trade Ministers Meeting (FTMM), held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat under the theme “Fostering Trade to Build a Resilient and Sustainable Pasifiki.”
The meeting provided an opportunity for Forum Members to address shared trade challenges—such as new tariffs, labor outmigration, and —with discussions emphasizing the need to align regional responses with global frameworks like the WTO.
Ministers advanced key initiatives including the Pacific Regional Labor Mobility Principles, the post-2025 Pacific Aid-for-Trade Strategy, the Pacific Regional Standards Committee, and the proposed KAVA Declaration—all tied to the 2050 Strategy and the Pacific Roadmap for Economic Development.
Led by His Excellency Carson K. Sigrah, the FSM delegation reaffirmed its commitment to regional cooperation and highlighted the trade vulnerabilities of Smaller Island States. As the newest member of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), FSM emphasized inclusive governance in green growth, traditional knowledge protection, and regenerative trade frameworks.
FSM reiterated its strong support for the 2050 Strategy as a guide for sustainable, resilient development grounded in Pacific values and solidarity.
