The FSM Delegation joins the Pacific Islands Forum’s Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM).

SUVA, Fiji — On July 21-23, 2025 the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) participated in the annual Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM) held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. This year’s FEMM convened under the theme “Stronger Together: Advancing Economic Resilience and a Sustainable Future in the Pacific,” a timely reflection of the shared challenges facing the region—rising inflation, persistent supply chain disruptions, and the worsening impacts of climate change. The meeting served as a platform for Forum Members to deepen regional cooperation and identify collective economic solutions.

FEMM 2025 advanced discussions on key regional priorities, including fisheries development under the East New Britain Initiative (ENBi), labor mobility, private sector growth, correspondent banking relationships, access to climate finance, and the ongoing establishment of the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF)—a Pacific-owned and Pacific-led initiative. These efforts align with the implementation of the Pacific Roadmap for Economic Development (PRED) and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, both of which guide the long-term sustainable development of the region.

As Chair of the Smaller Island States (SIS) group, the FSM underscored the particular vulnerabilities faced by SIS members such as limited economic diversification and climate-related risk that are further amplified for smaller island states due to geographic isolation, constrained economies of scale, and limited access to essential infrastructure and financial resources.

The FSM reaffirmed its belief that the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent offers a unifying framework to guide regional cooperation, protect the most vulnerable, and promote inclusive, resilient development across the Pacific. The FSM delegation was led by His Excellency Carson K. Sigrah.
